On the Other Side of Angel Tree

other_side_atCommon reports show that children of prisoners may be up to seven times more likely than other children to go to prison themselves one day. When Angel Tree® volunteers give a gift at Christmas, or mentor a child, or send a child to summer camp, they're doing so with the hope that even just a few of these kids won't be swept away by the tragic trend of generational crime.

Angel Tree Delivers

Jose_and_Meyra_Abreu_3On December 1, 2008, our dear friend and brother Jose Abreu went home to be with the Lord. Jose was, as Chuck Colson has said, a true "Living Monument" to God's grace, mercy, and love.

Teachers?” Sobbing, she finally came to one conclusion. “There’s nobody on this earth who can help me.” And that’s when it clicked. She said it again aloud, “There’s no one on this earth who can help me.”

An Unexpected Dinner Guest

A few days before Christmas in 2003 I got to hear first-hand about the impact of Angel Tree. My wife was out of town with our two oldest boys and not being one to want to unduly mess up the kitchen, I took our three youngest children out to dinner at Red, Hot & Blue, a barbeque diner in Leesburg, Virginia. It was a bitterly cold evening, and there was not much of me that was not bundled up even as I began to order. Mentally, I was in the same mood, I just wanted to huddle with the kids and keep to myself.
